With the development of the laser industry, the research of energy-saving, automatic, and high-quality laser crystal growth equipment has become the key to its upstream industry. The core issue of this high-energy-consuming laser crystal industry is completing high-quality crystal growth with low energy consumption. Moreover, current crystal growth equipment highly depends on manual operation, resulting in a spotty quality of laser crystals. For the sake of energy saving and full automation, we not only reduce the power consumption by half, but also develop the melting point capture, automatic body control, and other automatic crystal growth technology which used to rely on the artificial experience; this effort is significant for the development of the laser crystal industry. To date, we have developed a series of microchip lasers with high performance. Those microchip laser scan produce 1 μm output pulses with their repetition rates variable from 1 Hz to 10 kHz, pulse energy ranged from several μJ to 1mJ, pulse duration down to 300 ps, and hence peak power up to 1MW. More than 10W average output power can be achieved with further amplifications. We will give a brief review about this work in the presentation.

Prof. Biao Wang is the Chinese dean and Cheung Kong Chair Professor of Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, China, His recent research areas are mainly on optoelectronic single crystals fabrication and development of advanced laser systems. In these areas, he has published over 300 journal papers and two books, and gained over 20 authorized patents. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, he was shortlisted as Most Cited Chinese Researchers. He joined Sun Yat-sen University in 2004 and he had served as the Dean of the School of Physics and Engineering from October 2005 to January 2014. He played a leading role in the establishment of the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology, and since 2010 he has worked as the Chinese Dean of the Institute. He has received dozens of national and international awards, including, Citation Classic Award by ISI (2000), the National Natural Science Foundation for Excellent Young Investigators (1997), etc. At present, he also serve as the Chairperson of Guangdong Physics Society, and Standing Council Member of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
